Lyon Trip - Part 4 - Friday and Saturday

Okay - so I found some more pictures from Thursday - off Kari and Julie's cameras.
Here is the gang at the Roman Amphitheaters.

I wish my brothers and I got along better...

No, we are not teaching her how to smoke...

Uncle Trey was teaching her the fine arts of clover-tasting. Auntie Britt was demonstrating how great it was.

Waiting for a bus

... Also waiting for a bus

Finally able to relax back at home.

I believe this photo starts off the "Friday" photos.
There's a Doctor in the house.

The "bloods" went for an afternoon coffee break. Trey had to go in to a 1/2 day of Osteopathy school that morning.

Saturday (I think...)

Waiting for the bus by the house to head into the "old city" to view the "traboule" (covered passageways. These were used during WW2 to escape Nazi arrests)

"Beard Island"

We passed this island on the Saone every time we took the bus from the house on into Lyon.

It has really neat, really old buildings. Unfortunately, they are mostly private residences now.

We started our tour of the traboule with the Henry IV house.

You can read about it here X

And this is the picture of it.
Walking in the old city - looking for more passages to explore.
They are only open on Saturday mornings for Postal workers to be able to deliver mail as they are entrances for private residences.
EDITOR's CORRECTION:
I guess the passages are open Mon-Sat. for mail delivery, it was just that Saturday was the only day it fit into our schedule to go see them. oops. sorry for the incorrect information.
Boy was I personally glad when Trey corrected me. I was worried those poor traboule residents only got mail on Saturday! ;)

I'm glad Kari captured this picture of the cobblestone. This is what we walked on the whole time. Very pretty... very uneven walking :)
Oh yah - and ask Jesse how fun it was to push a stroller on the cobblestone!

Inside one of the better maintained passages.

Stairway inside a passageway
Isn't Renae MY Mini-me?!?
Just some neat architecture.
We visited "Beef Street" - I guess it is a famous street -so I took a picture :)

Beef Street

For those that follow my sister-in-law's (Kari) blog, you would know that Dan and I had to get a picture in the "red tower" :)
Dan and I staked our claim to the private alcove just around the corner at the base of the ROSE tower ; )
St. Johns Cathedral in the old city square.
We grabbed a bite to eat and coffee at this shop.

Hey! They have Coke Zero here!
When Kari ordered the sandwiches and Cokes for us, the manager informed her that she wasn't sure she could find enough straws.... was she still interested in the Cokes?
(I mean, what kind of uncivilized swine drink Coke straight from the can?...)
Britt and Dan got Ham and cheese sandwiches.
Note my straw... I was so local!

Pasteries were lunch dessert.
Dan got this really awesome pear and chocolate pastry.
I loved this huge bread in a basket inside the bakery.
By the end of this week, this bustop was recognizable. We got on here for the bus home.

Lyon Trip - Part 3

Well, actually this could be considered part 4 since it accounts what we did yesterday (Saturday) afternoon and chronologically comes after what we did on Friday and early Saturday, which I will post on "part 4" later. But I digress - just enjoy the pics :)

Yesterday (Saturday) was a wonderful relaxing day around the house. Dan, Britt, Jesse, and Julie played "Ticket to Ride, Europe". Dan won.

Renae with one of her favorite Aunts ;)

Awww.... sweet relaxation :)

We gave Trey and Kari their Christmas gifts and Trey his birthday card.
(We gave them their "grocery store" from us and Mom/Kevin shortly after arriving)

Jesse with his birthday card
Julie with their items from us and Mom/Kevin.

Ireally liked my birthday books from Grandpa and Grandma Jordan

"I'ld like to thank Uncle Dan and Aunt Britt for making this microphone possible..."

I really like this tag on my "Christmas" gift from Uncle Dan and Aunt Britt.
Mom is excited about the cute onesies Uncle Trey and Aunt Kari bought me. They say "Loved Child" in French. They also bought me a cute matching plate and bowl. They make great toys, too!
Daddy is so silly. Here he is playing my new bathtub xylophone from Uncle Dan and Auntie Britt
Uncle Dan gave me great tips on how to do this puzzle book.

Lyon Trip - Part 2

This will be a fairly short post as it is getting late here.
But yesterday we (Trey, Kari, Dan and I) went to see Bellecour - a shopping district with a central open area. Usually there are numerous trees, but they are doing restoration projects at this time. Sorry, I do not know what this statue is of/for. In the background you will see the Basillica. In the foreground is a white, egg shaped "rent-a-bike". No, we did not rent one - we walked and rode buses and rode the metro (subway).

On our way to eat supper. I took this picture so the kids could see what street signs look like in Lyon. Names of streets are usually posted on the buildings by street intersections. The arrow signs in the picture below represent which way to a certain section of town or a landmark. These signs are more prominent than "street" signs.

Supper.

Eating Turkish Kabobs. Veal meat with lettuce, tomato and a dill cucumber sauce - served with fries. Very tasty.

After supper we went up to the Basillica and viewed the city below.

Back at the bottom of the hill, across the river, and awaiting a bus to take us back to the house.

This is the view looking back up at the Basillica.

Today.

Jesse, Julie, and Renae arrived!
Here we are waiting at the bus stop just across the Saone to take us to Madame Fenet's in St Foy. St Foy (I may be spelling it wrong) is where Trey and Kari first lived in France, and close to where they currently live during the school year.

For part of the trip we had to take the Metro
Here we are at Madame Fenet's.
Great French Food.

After lunch we visited the Roman Amphitheater.

Back at the house, Kari fixed us a great supper - some Moroccan dish I think (sorry - too late and too tired to remember) - anyway - it was good :) There was cabbage, red pepper, carrots, and green beans in tasty raisin/clove/curry/etc... sauce. Served over cous cous.

Dan did dishes.
